I meant to post this over the weekend... My drive home from work on Friday was eventful.

Stuff happened... )
I don't really remember the rest of the drive home... except for a brief call to [info]luvcherbear to let her know i was running late. I'm not superstitious, but the fact that this was Friday the 13th is a bit of a coincidence.

It's Friday, I'm in love.

Happy Mabon, everyone!

It's Autumn! Autumn, Autumn, Autumn! My favourite time of the year :) On my way out of work this evening, i could already smell it in the air. Summer and Spring smell different here than they did back in England/Holland. Autumn, though, has a very familiar, comforting smell that reminds me of running through piles of dry leaves, morning and evening fog, toffee apples and long shadows in the afternoon.

This past weekend [info]luvcherbear and i went to Fall Frolic up near Milford. I didn't realise at the time, but it was very much a pagan-oriented event. I went mainly to hear [info]magicksaff and [info]stihltygre play a few sets (their band is Project Wendigo), but had fun visiting the vendors and joining in a Mabon ritual in the woods. That evening the Gypsy Nomads played as well... always awesome to see them, but this time it was in a small hall with at most 50 people there.
grainy cell phone pic behind cut )
Last time we saw them was at the last Wicked Faire, with hundreds of people in the audience. This was definitely a different experience :)

Sunday we had another Mabon celebration with family and friends. Less ritual, more Harvest feast, and wonderful seeing everyone again!

Hope everyone had a wonderful day! Hugs & kisses to my loved ones!

As usual, it's taken me until half way through the week to get around to writing a weekend update. Two weekends this time...
Weekend 1 )Weekend 2 )
This coming weekend is a long one. Not only do i have Labor Day off, but the day after, too, because of my company's requirement that everyone take even more vacation time so they don't have to pay us. I already have some plans, so we'll see what else happens :)

*Hugs* and *Kisses* to my loved ones!

A lot has happened since i last posted, so i figured it might be time for an update. I should have more time to post next week, as i'll be stuck in a hotel room in Minneapolis. Of course, i probably won't have anything to post about, as i'll be, well, stuck in a hotel room in Minneapolis.

Since i've already written about next week, i guess i'll continue in reverse chronological order :)

So, yeah, off on another trip next week. I don't like traveling much, and being away from [info]luvcherbear even less. Here's hoping for an uneventful journey...

I love it when artists, especially good ones, can support themselves doing what they love. I'm a bit jealous that they make a living doing what they enjoy doing so much :) The latest example is [info]ursulav whose publisher is pulling no stops promoting her latest book, Dragonbreath and have already picked up several sequels. BTW, she sells her artwork at Red Wombat Studio and of course there's the epic Digger.

Another LJ-er self-employed, doing wonderful work is [info]kyleri. Check out her website and order stuff. You won't regret it :) Same goes for [info]fabricdragon's beads and other pretty things. And there's [info]aeire and [info]willowanderer with their webcomics...

There are many others... feel free to plug them in comments :) What prompted me to post this, though, is the tough situation another artist finds herself in. [info]yoki_onna is the author of the Palimpsest series and was a guest at the last Wicked Faire. To raise funds she's selling her latest book online. It's available for whatever you want to pay, a new chapter each week.

At long last, today's mail brought USCIS form N-445, that is, "Notification of Naturalization Oath Ceremony"! I had my interview / test back in early January, and they told me at the time i would get this letter "in 3 to 6 weeks". I was beginning to think i wouldn't get it in time for the next Oath ceremony at the local courthouse, and they only do it twice a year. But i did, and on June 23rd i'll no longer be an alien. Stay tuned for details on a party that [info]luvcherbear has promissed :)

Off again this whole week, too, so [info]luvcherbear and i have a date planned for Thursday, her regular day off.

So, here i am, in sunny Minnesota. Well, it's not sunny now, it's night time. But it has been mostly sunny so far, about the same weather as back home, only less damp. And as i write this i hear a thunderclap outside... Nope, probably something on the highway outside the hotel room window, as the skies are clear, and i can't smell any rain in the air when i open the window. Also, the Weather Underground tab i always have open shows nothing on radar.

Anyway, just rambling, not much in the way of sleep happening here. The one day a week [info]luvcherbear works night shift is bad enough, but even then i'm not alone the whole night. Almost a week of sleeping alone is taking a toll on both of us. It's actually an hour earlier here than the timestamp on this post says, but i should still be in bed. The TV in the room crapped out tonight, so there's not much in the way of random distractions (which is all TV is good for, anyway). When i mentioned the remote wasn't working any more they wanted to move me to another room! Um, it's just the TV... i'm not going to pack my bags at 10PM to move to another room just for some background noise, really :) 'Sides, Fringe is being DVR'd back home and i can catch The Daily Show online if need be. There's not much else i would bother watching.

So, Minnesota... This hotel hasn't changed much since i was last here about 4 or 5 months ago. I noticed an "out of order" sign on a soda vending machine next to the ice dispenser that looked rather aged. I read the small type about being able to get some "pop" from the main lobby instead of from the broken machine and thought how interesting it was that they called it that here. And immediately remembered having the same thought a few months ago... It's the same "out of order" sign!

It was pretty crowded in the hotel lobby this evening... lots of business-type looking people. Must be a convention nearby, i figure. I discovered in the desk drawer a pamphlet entitled "The Native's Guide to The Best of The Twin Cities". Vaguely wondering why a native here would need a guide that a visitor wouldn't, i took a quick look. On the back is a list of 9 "Minnesota Facts & Trivia". Yes, 9, individually numbered, as if to emphasize it. Apparently they couldn't come up with a best 10 or anything. Let's see... some of these interesting facts are that Minneapolis has more golfers per capita than any other city in the country! And "Minneapolis' famed skyway system connecting 52 blocks (nearly five miles) of downtown makes it possible to live, eat, work and shop without going outside." Yeah, neither of these strike me as particularly appealing.

Enough snarking at the situation... i only have to suck it up for a few more days and then i'll be home :) Big *hugs* and *kisses* to my loved ones and extra special *kisses* and *snuggles* to you, [info]luvcherbear :)

How I wish, how I wish you were here.

Facebook is a really convenient way of getting back in touch with people from your past. I've gotten back in touch with quite a few long-lost friends in the few months i've been using it. Just a few weeks ago, and old high school crush found me there :) But, the thing is, people find you by virtue of you using your real name on the site (how else would they search for you?).

So, of course, it took me until this weekend to find time to write about last weekend :)

Yesterday's weather really felt like Spring was here, so a belated happy Spring to everyone! [info]luvcherbear and i celebrated Ostara in NJ, of all places. We went to visit [info]juergen, [info]maziemaus, Miss B., [info]bunnyjadwiga and her month-or-so old Beekman. It was the first time we had seen most of them since the baby had been born, so there was much hugging and snuggling :) We spent some time walking around a local park there, playing in the playground and Miss B. introduced us to the joys of geocaching. I've heard of it before, of course, but it apparently requires a magical device called a Gee-pee-ess to join in the fun. She found her cache and exchanged a colourful shoelace for a plastic fish. Which learned to fly ("throw the trout!") and prompted a discussion of the Spring migration patterns of the flying trout and how New Jersey happens to be one of their preferred resting stops...

Back at the house we had nommy dinner, prepared by [info]maziemaus: tabouli, humus, nachos, things to dip into all of the above. Much cooing and awwing and holding of the baby :) More cuddling and hugging and then we regretfully had to leave for the long drive home. By the way, the toll plaza crossing into PA on route 22 changes their configuration on the weekend. It's very confusing, passing through there every day and heading for the EZ-pass lanes, to have to see other lanes marked "EZ-pass only" and at the same time remember [info]luvcherbear's car doesn't have an EZ-pass tag. Especially when it's nearly midnight.

So, yeah, Spring :) I love driving through NJ farm country to work and back... Seeing all the animals, now that they're outdoors: horses, goats, cows, and their young. I haven't seen the sheep yet, nor the llama. Yes, there's one farm i pass that has llama.

Today [info]luvcherbear and i are off to Imperial Tattoo in Bethlehem, to talk to one of their artists about a design we plan on getting. Yes, both of us. [info]luvcherbear has been trying to make me nervous, telling me "you know it's going to hurt, right?" :)

Right, i'm being ordered into the shower so we're not late...

ETA: Oh, and for those participating, Earth hour is at 8:30 tonight...

here's a llama / there's a llama / and another little llama / fuzzy llama / funny llama / llama llama
